What is Erasmus+?

What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is a programme of the European Union with the idea of promoting cultural, social, and academic exchanges between European students. With a high budget, it provides opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, and gain experience abroad. For us, this means, that we work on a project with six different schools in five countries.

What is the topic of our project?

Our topic is: „Raising the conscious citizens of tomorrow; The necessity of a new multicultural democratic culture.“ Using the slogan “Citizen me!“, for two years we are dealing with the subjects of democracy and active citizenship.

The term “Democracy” has its origines in the two greek words demos and kratos. Demos means “people” and kratos means “rule”. This means that a democracy is a form of government run by the people. We, the citizens, can actively take part on important decisions. That means, we have a lot of rights. For example, we have the freedom of assembly, speech and religion; we have the right to vote and human rights.

To be a good citizen in a democratic culture, it is important to participate actively in society. For example, it is important to vote, to be responsible, to do voluntary work and to help others. This way, we are creating and changing in a positive way our society.
